CHARLOTTE – Tonight, N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will temporarily close ramps as part of the I-485 express lanes project underway to add an express lane and deliver additional corridor improvements along Interstate 485 between I-77 and U.S. 74 (Independence Boulevard). Various ramp closures are needed for paving operations associated with the project.
Tonight, on the east end of the project, the loop ramps from I-485 Outer to U.S. 74 East & West will be closed. Drivers will be detoured along the outer loop to Idlewild Road (exit 49) where drivers can turn around to access the inner loop. These closures will be in place Sunday – Thursday nights next week, as well.
On Sunday night, ramps from I-77 North & South to the I-485 outer loop will be closed. Drivers will need to take I-485 Inner to N.C. 49 (exit 1.) These closures will be in place Sunday – Thursday nights next week, weather permitting.
Drivers can expect these closures between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. each night as weather allows.
Drivers should be mindful of crews working in these locations and allow extra time to reach their destination.
