Wilson County Highway Requires Temporary Closure

WILSON – A stretch of U.S. 301 in Wilson County will be closed this month for drainage improvements.

Contract crews for the state Transportation Department will close the highway in both directions near Aycock Crossing Road in southwestern Wilson County at 7 a.m. July 11. The road is expected to reopen by July 25.

Crews will be upgrading the drainage pipe that goes underneath the highway.

Northbound drivers will be detoured onto N.C. 581, Newsome Mill Road, Upper Black Creek Church Road and Aycock Crossing Road.

Southbound drivers will use Oscar Loop to Saint Marys Church Road to N.C. 581.

Drivers should factor the longer route during the commute and approach the closure cautiously.
