GASTONIA – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will be working on the bridge taking U.S. 29/74 over Interstate 85 tonight, weather permitting.
This work is part of a $4 million bridge preservation project awarded last year to Reeves Construction Company out of Duncan, South Carolina.
The project includes substructure and deck repairs, like removing old concrete and making any necessary repairs to reinforcing steel. The removed material is replaced with sprayed concrete to cover the steel and extend the substructure and deck's service life.
To safely perform the work, crews will close the ramp from U.S. 29/74 to I-85 South at 7 p.m. and the right lane on I-85 South under the bridge at 9 p.m. Closures will be removed by 6 a.m. Friday. There will be a signed detour for drivers.
