ROCKY MOUNT – A state highway contractor will close part of Benvenue Road (N.C. 43) at the U.S. 64 interchange in Rocky Mount to install underground drainage pipes.
The northbound direction of Benvenue Road will close at 9 a.m. Wednesday, and it's scheduled to reopen by 5 p.m. Thursday.
An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor is constructing a roundabout at this intersection to improve traffic flow and safety. The contractor is improving the drainage system as part of this project.
Drivers going north should use U.S. 64 East to Exit 469, return on U.S. 64 West to the same exit to continue on Benvenue Road on the other side of the interchange.
The southbound side of Benvenue Road will remain open to traffic.
Construction on the roundabout started in February, after the NCDOT awarded $4.8 million contract last year. The revised completion date is May 2024.
