SMITHFIELD – Bakers Chapel Road southeast of Smithfield will close next week for drainage work.
Contract crews will close the road near its intersection with Braswell/Ormond roads starting at 7 a.m. Monday to upgrade a drainage pipe underneath the pavement. They plan to replace the pipe, repave the road and reopen it by Sunday evening, April 23, weather permitting.
People should plan for a longer commute when using the detour, which will consist of Ormond, Woodard and Bakers Chapel roads.
