WILSON’S MILLS – Swift Creek Road at U.S. 70 is scheduled to close for a year starting Tuesday to build a bridge.
A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation is upgrading this section of U.S. 70 in Wilson’s Mills by converting its conventional intersections with Swift Creek Road and Wilson’s Mills Road into interchanges with
bridges, ramps and loops.
In November, the contractor closed Swift Creek Road south of the highway to install a drainage culvert.
The contractor will keep the south side of the road closed when it closes the north side of the same road beginning at 5 p.m. March 7. The contractor will build a bridge at this location.
The new bridge carrying Swift Creek Road over U.S. 70 is scheduled to open in the spring of 2024.
The detour utilized when the south side of Swift Creek Road closed in November will be the same after the north side of it also closes: Drivers will use Strickland Road and Wilson’s Mills Road.
