BUTNER – A primary access point in Butner is scheduled to close this week while a deteriorated railroad crossing is upgraded.
Norfolk Southern plans to close the crossing at Gate 2 Road/Central Avenue Tuesday morning and reopen it by Wednesday, weather permitting.
The closure will enable crews to safely replace railroad ties and pavement with a heavy-duty rail crossing to better withstand truck traffic.
During this closure, drivers will be detoured to use C Street/N.C. 56 to access the town, Interstate 85 and points to the east.
Drivers should be mindful of crews working near the railroad track on Gate 2 Road/Central Avenue and factor the detour into their trips.
