SPRING HOPE – The U.S. 64 Alternate bridge over the Tar River in Nash County will be replaced under a $3.7 million contract awarded this week by the N.C. Department of Transportation.
Fred Smith Co. of Raleigh will replace the 70-year-old bridge, which is nearing the end of its service life. The contractor can begin the project after March 15, and will have until summer 2024 to complete the project and reopen the road.
The work will require the road to be closed at the river. Drivers should use U.S. 64 to go around the closure.
