WILSON – About eight miles of Interstate 587 (U.S. 264) east of Wilson will be milled, resurfaced and restriped with high-visibility pavement markings.
A contractor will make the improvements on the highway from just east of the N.C. 58 interchange to the Wilson-Greene county line, as indicated on this blue line.
In addition, the following bridges in this vicinity will undergo preservation work, such as repairing the concrete deck and substructures, that will extend their service life:
- U.S. 264 Alternate over I-587
- Gardners School Road over I-587 Bypass
- Piney Grove Church Road over I-587
The department recently awarded S.T. Wooten Corp. of Wilson the contract for $9.5 million, which was the lowest, responsive bid and 13% below an engineering estimate for the project.
The contractor can begin in December, and will have until the summer of 2024 to complete all of the improvements.
