​HILLSBOROUGH – Due to a recent crash, I-85 South underneath the N.C. 86 bridge, near Exit 186, and N.C. 86 over the interstate have been closed to allow N.C. Department of Transportation engineers to assess the damage to the interstate-spanning bridge.
Both roads are estimated to reopen by 2 p.m., but this may change, as crews are still clearing debris and inspecting the structural integrity of the bridge.
During this time, motorists traveling along I-85 will be detoured off the Exit 165 off-ramp and directed back on to the interstate via the on-ramp.
Motorists along N.C. 86 should take U.S. Business 70, Lawrence Road and Old N.C. 10 to travel around the closed bridge.
Everyone should remain alert, drive cautiously and slow down as they travel in this area.
