RALEIGH – N.C. Department of Transportation contractors are planning a series of closures on eastbound Interstate 40 as part of the widening of I-40 from Southeast Raleigh to Clayton.
Beginning tonight at 8:30 p.m., the left lane of I-40 East will close about one mile before N.C. 42 (Exit 312). At 11 p.m., I-40 East close completely until 6 a.m. tomorrow. The same closures will be in place on Thursday and Friday nights as crews construct a new bridge at N.C. 42.
The detour will be short as traffic will be sent up and down the exit ramps to continue east on I-40.
Also beginning tonight at 11 p.m., the I-40 East exit to U.S. 70 Business East (Exit 306) will be closed until 5 a.m. tomorrow as crews demolish the old I-40 East bridge over the ramp to U.S. 70 Business East. These closures will be in place each weekday evening through May 18.
The detour will direct drivers to turn right toward the White Oak Crossing shopping center and make a U-turn at the traffic signal.
Drivers should pay extra attention while driving through the work zone and allow extra time to navigate the detour route.
