CLAYTON – The ongoing widening of N.C. 42 east of Clayton will require its intersection with Pineville Boulevard to temporarily close.
The closure of where Pineville Boulevard meets N.C. 42 will begin Monday morning. Motorists will need to use Flowers Commerce Drive and Buffalo Road to easily travel between N.C. 42 and the shopping center. Travel on N.C. 42 won't be affected while access to Pineville Boulevard is temporarily restricted.
The closure is needed to allow contract workers to safely tie in the widened highway where it meets Pineville Boulevard, which is scheduled to reopen by 5 p.m. Dec. 20.
An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor is widening N.C. 42 between Buffalo Road and Glen Laurel Road under a $58 million contract awarded in late 2018. The widening and other roadway improvements are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022.
