YOUNGSVILLE— N.C. Department of Transportation contractors are planning a major shift for drivers on U.S. 401 in northern Wake and southern Franklin counties.
Both directions of traffic will move onto the newly constructed lanes on the future southbound side of U.S. 401 between N.C. 96 and just north of Flat Rock Church Road/Clifton Pond Road. This is expected to occur on Saturday afternoon.
Once the shift is complete, work on the future northbound side can be completed.
Motorists should slow down and pay attention throughout the work zone, particularly as they get used to the new driving pattern.
This work is part of a project to widen and improve this six-mile stretch of U.S. 401, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022.
