RALEIGH - The North Carolina Turnpike Authority is continuing construction of the southern portion of the Complete 540 project, which will extend the Triangle Expressway (Toll N.C. 540) from N.C. 55 Bypass to Interstate 40.
On or around Saturday, Nov. 6, contractors for the project have scheduled a temporary traffic lane shift on existing Southbound U.S. 401 (Fayetteville Road) between Allen Street and Old McCullers Road for N.C. 540 construction. Southbound U.S. 401 traffic will shift to an on-site temporary detour. As part of the temporary lane shift, Southbound U.S. 401 will no longer be able to access Old McCullers Road where it currently connects to existing U.S. 401. Traffic on Old McCullers at U.S. 401 will be right in, right out only for approximately two weeks.
On or around Saturday, Nov. 20, contractors for the project have also scheduled a temporary traffic lane shift on Northbound U.S. 401 between Allen Street and Old McCullers Road for N.C. 540 construction. All U.S. 401 traffic will be shifted to an on-site temporary detour for approximately 18 months as construction work progresses on the U.S. 401 bridges over N.C. 540. Once all traffic has shifted to the on-site detour, Old McCullers Road will permanently close where it currently connects to U.S. 401.
Signage will be installed advising travelers of upcoming closures.
Drivers should use caution and slow down while traveling through the work zones and detour routes.
