The winning project could win the national Grand Prize or the People’s Choice Award, both valued at $10,000 for a charity or transportation-related scholarship of the winners’ choosing.
The 1.2-mile improvement project included multiple safety upgrades and multimodal improvements and involved extensive collaboration between NCDOT, the City of Winston-Salem and residents. Some of the improvements were the addition of four bicycle lanes and one multi-use path, the replacement of ten bridges, reconstruction of shoulders and ramps, and the addition of two new, signature pedestrian bridges.
