Nash County Bridge Work Requires Temporary Detour

ROCKY MOUNT – Two ramps at the Interstate 95 and U.S. 64 junction in Nash County are scheduled to close this morning for bridge maintenance.

The affected ramps, which will require detours, are:

  • U.S. 64 East ramp Exit 464B to access I-95 North
  • I-95 South ramp at Exit 138A to access U.S. 64 East

Both ramps are scheduled to close each day from 8:30 a.m. today until 4:30 p.m. June 24, and again during those same times from June 28-30.

During the ramp closures, maintenance crews for the N.C. Department of Transportation will replace the metal expansion joints on the U.S. 64 East bridges. Expansion joints provide a smoother ride and protect the girders supporting the driving deck. In this case, the expansion joints have neared the end of their useful life and have required an increasing amount of maintenance that causes temporary lane closures.

The detours will be as follows:

  • U.S. 64 ramp detour: Take Exit 464A to I-95 South, then Exit 132 to reverse and go I-95 Nort
  • I-95 ramp detour: Take Exit 138B onto U.S. 64 West, then Exit 463 to reverse and go eastbound

Drivers should expect a longer commute with the detours, and they should be alert traveling near the work zone.
