CHATHAM COUNTY – Replacement of a concrete pipe culvert will require closing a section of N.C. 42 in Chatham County for several weeks.
N.C. 42 is expected to close between Dickens Road and Christian Chapel Church Road midday on Wednesday, June 23. The work is expected to last about four weeks, weather permitting.
N.C. Department of Transportation officials have attributed the pipe failure to damage from flooding during Hurricane Florence. The department awarded a $107,845 contract to Jymco Construction Company of Smithfield to make the repair.
During the closure, N.C. 42 traffic will be detoured along Christian Chapel Church Road, Old U.S. 1 and Corinth Road to access points on either side of the work zone.
Drivers should be mindful of crews working in this area and factor the detour into their commutes.
