RALEIGH — As part of the Interstate 440 Improvements project, N.C. Department of Transportation contractors are scheduled to close the I-440 West ramp to Melbourne Road (Exit 1D) tonight.
The ramp will close from midnight until 5 a.m. Thursday to allow crews to safely shift traffic toward the median from Western Boulevard to Athens Drive. Realigning traffic will open the outside shoulder for construction in this area.
A detour will lead drivers to take Exit 1C and follow Jones Franklin Road, Western Boulevard and Powell Drive to get to Melbourne Road.
This closure is weather dependent and subject to change.
Motorists should allow extra time to navigate the detour and slow down and pay attention throughout the work zone.
