Section of I-26 Closing for Tonight

HENDERSONVILLE – A section of Interstate 26 East will be closed tonight, and motorists will be diverted onto a detour that will be modified to handle the increased traffic.

I-26 East will be closed from U.S. 25 Business (Exit 44) to Upward Road (Exit 53) starting no earlier than 8 p.m., when a contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will begin removing the final section of the old bridge on Brookside Camp Road over the interstate.

Traffic will be diverted in the Integrated Corridor Management system — which provides longer green lights to accommodate additional interstate traffic — to U.S. 25 through Hendersonville to U.S. 176 to Upward Road and back to the interstate. The closed lanes will open no later than 6 a.m.

These plans are weather-dependent and subject to change. Transportation officials advise drivers to obey all posted traffic signs and remain alert in work zones.
