RALEIGH – The N.C. Board of Transportation on Thursday morning approved separate resolutions honoring Gus Tulloss, who was a long-serving member of the board, and Goldsboro Mayor Chuck Allen.
A major Rocky Mount bridge will be dedicated after Tulloss, who represented the region of Highway Division 4 east of Raleigh for 12 years until he retired from the board in 2020. And a section of the U.S. 70 Bypass in Goldsboro will be dedicated after the mayor.
The requests for the designations came from local officials:
- The Rocky Mount City Council and the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce have backed the Tulloss designation.
- The Goldsboro City Council and the Wayne County Board of Commissioners have passed resolutions supporting the mayoral designation.
“I'm thrilled and humbled by this honor," said Tulloss, who attended the board meeting Thursday in Raleigh. “And Mayor Allen has long been an important advocate for better transportation throughout Wayne County. He is very deserving of this honor."

Each location will be marked with a green highway sign on either approach of the bridge or affected section of highway. The signs must be manufactured first, and dedication ceremonies for both men will be scheduled later.
