FREMONT – A section of N.C. 222 in Wayne County is scheduled to close Wednesday morning to replace a crossline pipe that is failing underneath the roadway.
The closure will occur near Atlantic Road, just east of the Johnston-Wayne County line. Maintenance employees for the N.C. Department of Transportation will dig up the pavement, remove the 42-inch pipe and install a 60-inch one that will better handle stormwater.
The signed detour will vary depending on which direction drivers are traveling on N.C. 222. Those details can be found online. People should expect delays and be cautious near the worksite.
The road is scheduled to reopen by 5 p.m. May 21.
