Detours Ahead as Part of Beltway Project Wraps Up

RURAL HALL – Several highway and exit loop closures are planned over the next few weeks for final work on a portion of the Winston-Salem Northern Beltway project.

The contractor on the project to rebuild the U.S. 52 interchange with N.C. 65, preparing it for the eventual tie into the Interstate 74 beltway, will set decorative arch façade panels for the N.C. 65 bridge.

Doing so will require closures of U.S. 52 Northbound, the U.S. 52 Northbound exit to N.C. 65 and the exit from N.C. 65 onto U.S. 52 Southbound at various times through early February, beginning this Friday. Lane closures can begin at 7 p.m. and full closures of the highway or exits will start at 10 p.m. All closures will be removed by 6 a.m. the following mornings.

Detours are as follows:

  • Northbound U.S. 52 traffic will use the new collector ramp, which narrows to one lane, and merge back onto northbound U.S. 52.
  • U.S. 52 Northbound exit to N.C. 65 traffic will detour up to Westinghouse Road head back on U.S.  52 South to the N.C. 65 exit.
  • N.C. 65 exit to southbound U.S. 52 traffic will detour up U.S. 52 North to Westinghouse Road to access U.S. 52 South.

This work operations is weather dependent and subject to change. For specific closure dates and times and real-time travel information, visit DriveNC.gov or follow NCDOT on social media.
