NCDOT Integrated Mobility Division Rose Above 2020 Challenges

RALEIGH In 2020, the N.C. Department of Transportation’s Integrated Mobility Division assisted local transit systems in navigating the year’s unprecedented challenges and continued to administer federal and state grants, research emerging mobility trends, pilot innovative technologies, and disseminate multimodal best practices.

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the Integrated Mobility Division (formerly the Bicycle and Pedestrian and Public Transportation Divisions) launched NC Transit Cares, which brought together representatives from all of North Carolina’s 98 transit systems to discuss coronavirus response and recovery strategies and to develop solutions to anticipated long-term challenges.

The division also continued their efforts to support promising programs and innovations. One such program, RIDE, Wilson’s on-demand ridesharing service, was recognized nationally as a focus technology by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.  The program was also awarded a $250,000 Federal Transit Administration grant, one of several grants awarded to the division for innovative pilot projects in 2020.
