RALEIGH – Work continues on construction of the Triangle Expressway extension (N.C. 540), the Complete 540 project. Activities scheduled to take place in the coming weeks include:
- Building of a construction entrance on the north side of Sunset Lake Road in order to access the area between E. Williams Street and Sunset Lake Road
- Clearing of land to build a construction entrance on Deer Meadow Drive in order to access the area between Deer Meadow Drive and Johnson Pond Road
- Pile driving for the West Lake Road bridge foundations will occur during daytime hours beginning late January through early March
- Colonial Pipeline will relocate their existing pipeline currently within the footprint of planned highway construction
- Traffic on West Lake Road may experience intermittent minor delays during daytime hours through March
- Ongoing clearing of land, earthwork and installation of erosion and sedimentation control measures work where N.C. 540 will cross Benson Road
- Ongoing land clearing in the Interstate 40 interchange area
- Interstate 40 median work, including pile driving, installation of reinforcing steel and concrete placements where N.C. 540 will cross Interstate 40
- Drainage work and bridge construction on the west side of Interstate 40
- In coordination with our contractors, Duke Energy will be adjusting the height of powerlines beginning in mid-February where N.C. 540 will cross Rhodes Road
The first phase of the Complete 540 Project extends the existing Triangle Expressway (N.C. 540) between the N.C. 55 Bypass and Interstate 40.
