RALEIGH – N.C. 12 will remain closed Sunday and state transportation officials will reassess road conditions tomorrow and begin clearing and any possible repair work required to reopen the road.
Limited visibility, severe ocean overwash and wind-blown sand prompted the N.C. Department of Transportation to close the road between Oregon Inlet and Rodanthe at 5 p.m. Saturday and keep it closed until at least Monday.
NCDOT crews have been working to clear sand that was blown onto N.C. 12 during a coastal storm this weekend. The storm could send more ocean overwash onto N.C. 12 during high tide cycles later today and tomorrow. The storm is forecast to exit the coast later today or tomorrow.
