MATTHEWS – A traffic shift on South Trade Street is scheduled to occur on Friday morning, Oct. 4, weather permitting, between Chaphyn Lane and Brenham Lane over Four Mile Creek in Mecklenburg County.
The shift is needed to allow crews to complete structure and roadway work associated with a project underway to improve about a half mile of the street. The N.C. Department of Transportation awarded a $3 million contract in December 2017.
The project will expand South Trade Street from two to four lanes between Chaphyn Lane and Marque Place. The project also calls for a concrete median from Weddington Road to just north of Brenham Lane, giving drivers right-in and right-out access at Brenham Lane. These improvements will reduce the potential for rear-end crashes.
Motorists are encouraged to pay attention when approaching the work zone, obey the posted speed limit, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
