Edgecombe County Resurfacing Project Coming to Tarboro

TARBORO – Motorists will experience a smoother ride on two streets in Tarboro after a construction project scheduled to start soon is complete.

An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor is scheduled on Sept. 30 to begin resurfacing about a mile stretch of Saint Andrew Street between East Granville Street and East Walnut Street. The contractor also will resurface a section of West Saint James Street. Drivers will encounter temporary lane closures and on-street parking restrictions during construction.

Workers for Barnhill Contracting Co. of Rocky Mount will start on Saint Andrew Street near the courthouse and work northward. The contractor will mill away the old pavement, with another crew following behind to repave and paint temporary lane markings.

People should not park on Saint Andrew Street or within 50 feet of any side-street intersection during construction. Parked vehicles hindering the contractor’s progress could be towed.

The contractor will maintain local traffic on Saint Andrew Street, although people may use North Main Street as an alternative.

When the contractor’s milling crew is finished with Saint Andrew Street, they will move to milling away the old asphalt on West Saint James Street and repave the road between North Main Street and Western Boulevard. People should avoid parking on West Saint James Street during construction, too.

Resurfacing both streets will take three to four weeks to complete.
