Roanoke Avenue in Halifax County to be Repaved

ROANOKE RAPIDS – Starting Wednesday, drivers will encounter lane reductions on part of N.C. 48 (Roanoke Avenue) while crews remove and replace the pavement.

An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will resurface the town’s main route between where Jackson Street merges with Roanoke Avenue and U.S. 158 to the south, a distance of about a mile.

Because of the construction, people should not park along this affected section of Roanoke Rapids.

The work will be done in the daytime and in sections, meaning the contractor will mill away, repave and restripe one section at a time. The contractor will maintain two-way traffic on the three-lane road, but motorists are encouraged to slow down and be alert in the work zone.

The resurfacing is expected to be completed by early August, if the weather cooperates.
