Public Meeting Scheduled for Idlewild Road Improvements

INDIAN TRAIL – The N.C. Department of Transportation is holding a public meeting to gather input on a proposed project to improve safety and reduce congestion on a section of Idlewild Road crossing two counties.

The Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization is seeking a wider road to improve traffic flow and help plan for growth. The proposal would widen about 1.5 miles from two to six lanes between Barney Drive and Rockwell Drive.

Innovative designs are being proposed to improve safety and efficiency at intersections with Interstate 485, Stallings Road and Stevens Mill Road, along with a multi-use path along the north side of Idlewild Road. Maps of the concepts and additional information is available on the NCDOT’s public meeting website

The public meeting is set for Thursday, July 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. Poplin Elementary School, 5627 Poplin Road. Those interested may attend the meeting at any time, as no formal presentation will be made.

People who cannot attend the meeting may submit comments in writing, by phone or email through Aug. 8.  All comments received will be reviewed and considered for the final design.
