Mecklenburg County Ramp Closure Tonight at I-85/I-485 Interchange

CHARLOTTE – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will temporarily close access from Interstate 85 North to the I-485 Inner Loop (exit 48) at 9 tonight, weather permitting. The closure is part of a $10.8 million resurfacing contract that will provide drivers a better riding surface along a stretch of I-485 between I-85 and Rocky River Road.

During the closure, drivers on I-85 North will need to exit to the Outer Loop, continuing to the Mallard Creek Road exit, where they can get back on the Inner Loop. Two travel lanes will be open on I-485, with work wrapping up by 6 a.m. Thursday, July 11.

The closures may be rescheduled if rain affects the contractor’s progress.

Drivers should slow down and use extra caution while going through the work zones and the detour route and be alert for construction crews or equipment.
