CHARLOTTE – Work on Interstate 277 will require two ramp closures for bridge repair work starting at 9 tonight and Thursday night, weather permitting.
The first closure will affect the ramp from the outer loop to the 3rd and 4th Street exit. A detour will direct drivers to the Kenilworth Avenue exit, continuing to Charlottetowne Avenue and Kings Drive.
Another closure will affect the exit ramp from the outer loop to Carson Boulevard. Drivers will be detoured to the South Boulevard exit, turning left to return to Carson Boulevard.
The ramps will open by 6 a.m. the following morning.
Bridge work will continue over the weekend, so the same ramps will close from 9 p.m. Friday, July 12 until 6 a.m. Monday, July 15.
Crews will also be working on the ramp from the outer loop to U.S. 74 East, requiring overnight closures on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Detour information can be found at DriveNC.gov; type in Mecklenburg County for a list of closures.
Drivers need to slow down and use extra caution while going through the work zones and the detour routes. They also need to pay extra attention to the road for their own safety, as well as any passengers, occupants of other vehicles and the construction crews in the area.
All this work is part of the $16.3 million project to improve the roadway and 22 bridges along I-277.
