Ramp Closure Needed at I-85/I-485 Interchange in Northeast Mecklenburg County

CHARLOTTE – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will temporarily close access from Interstate 85 to the I-485 Inner Loop (exit 48) at 9 tonight, weather permitting. The closure is part of a $10.8 million resurfacing contract to improve a stretch of I-485 between I-85 and Rocky River Road, providing drivers a better riding surface.

During the closure, drivers on I-85 will need to exit to the Outer Loop, continuing to the Mallard Creek Road exit, where they can get back on the Inner Loop. Two travel lanes will be open on I-485, with work wrapping up by 6 a.m. Wednesday, July 10.

The closures may be rescheduled if rain affects the contractor’s progress.

Drivers need to slow down and use extra caution while going through the work zones and the detour routes. They also need to pay extra attention to the road for their own safety, as well as any passengers, occupants of other vehicles and the construction crews in the area.
