Road Closing for Bridge Replacement Project in Lexington

LEXINGTON – A bridge replacement project will begin next week and close part of a Davidson County road for several months.

N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews plan to close a section of Greensboro Street Extension in Lexington starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, July 8. The bridge over Leonard Creek, built in 1922, has reached the end of its useful life and needs to be replaced.

The new bridge is expected to be completed by March 2020.

Until that time, a signed detour will be in place following Hill Everhart, Pilgrim United Church, City Lake and Ridge roads. Local traffic will still be able to access Greensboro Street Extension up to the construction site.

Drivers should pay attention near the work zone and allow for extra time to reach their destinations safely.
