Busy Weekend for Work on I-277 Improvements

CHARLOTTE – Work on Interstate 277 will require two ramp closures for bridge repair work over the weekend. Both closures will be in place at 9 p.m., opening by 6 a.m. Monday, July 1.

The first closure will affect the ramp from the outer loop to the 3rd and 4th Street exit. A detour will direct drivers to the Kenilworth Avenue exit, continuing to Charlottetowne Avenue and Kings Drive.

Another closure will affect the exit ramp from the outer loop to Carson Boulevard. Drivers will be detoured to the South Boulevard exit, turning left to return to Carson Boulevard.

The ramp closures will also be in place Monday and Tuesday nights, July 1 and 2 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. to continue bridge work.

All the closures are weather dependent and may be rescheduled if rain affects the contractor’s progress.

Drivers need to slow down and use extra caution while going through the work zones and the detour routes. They also need to pay extra attention to the road for their own safety, as well as any passengers, occupants of other vehicles and the construction crews in the area.

All this work is part of the $16.3 million project to improve the roadway and 22 bridges along I-277.
