Franklin County Bridge Replacement to Begin Soon

RALEIGH – A bridge in Franklin County will be replaced soon, thanks to a new contract from the N.C. Department of Transportation. The structure is located on Person Road over Sandy Creek in northern Franklin County.

The project could start as early as the last week of July and should wrap up in June 2020.

The current bridge, built in 1952, is being replaced because it has become functionally obsolete and structurally deficient, which means while remaining safe it requires extensive maintenance, no longer meets today's traffic needs, and has vehicle weight limits.

The $1.4-million contract went to Fred Smith Company of Raleigh. This is one of six road and bridge projects recently awarded by the Department, at a cost of nearly $53.8 million.
