GREENSBORO – Plans to improve the Joseph Bryan Boulevard interchange at New Garden and Horse Pen Creek roads will be the focus of a public meeting set for this week.
The N.C. Department of Transportation is proposing changes that will improve traffic operations and safety at the interchange in northwest Greensboro. The Greensboro Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization originally submitted the project.
Crash rates for New Garden Road at the junction are notably higher than the state average for similar roads. Overall, the corridor is prone to conflicts and poor sight distances for drivers.
Proposed improvements include a new ramp from westbound New Garden Road onto westbound Bryan Boulevard, lengthening several existing turn lanes and adding raised medians for portions of New Garden Road, as well as adding a westbound lane to Bryan Boulevard between the interchanges with New Garden and Fleming roads.
Maps and more details on the proposed changes can be found on the NCDOT public meeting webpage.
People can also learn more about the project at the open house-style meeting set for Thursday, June 6, from 4-7 p.m. in the fellowship hall at St. Paul Apostle Catholic Church, 2715 Horse Pen Creek Road in Greensboro.
Project representatives will be on hand to answer questions and receive feedback that they will take into consideration as the project develops. Public comments may also be submitted by phone or email by June 28.
