Business 40 Lane Closures Continue East of Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM – Now through May 19, drivers on Interstate 40 Business east of Winston-Salem will encounter lane reductions as preparations for tying in a section of the future Winston-Salem Northern Beltway continue.

The closures will be between mile markers 10 and 14 to enable N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews to complete guardrail, shoulder and seeding work.

Eastbound Business 40 is already in a one-lane traffic pattern and will remain that way until 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 18. The westbound side will be reduced to a single lane from 5 a.m. on Monday, May 13, until 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 19.

Drivers can use N.C. 66, Interstate 40 and U.S. 52 as alternative routes to avoid Business 40 during the closures. Those who take Business 40 should watch for signage ahead of the lane drops and be cautious throughout the work zone. They should also anticipate possible delays.
