BURLINGTON – Resurfacing work will require overnight lane closures for several months along Interstate 40/85 in Alamance and Orange counties.
Starting Sunday night, May 12, resurfacing operations will begin on I-40/85 between N.C. 54 (exit 148) and Buckhorn Road (exit 157). This work will take place between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. and is expected to be complete by Nov. 22. Both directions of the interstate will be resurfaced, but only one direction at a time.
The new pavement structure will include a surface layer of open-graded friction course asphalt, which will help reduce hydroplaning and will make the lanes more visible to drivers during rain events.
Drivers are encouraged to slow down and use caution in the work zone and to allow for extra travel time where lane closures are in place.
