TARBORO – The public will have an opportunity this month to review and comment on a proposal to widen a section of Wilson Street (N.C. 111) in Edgecombe County.
The N.C. Department of Transportation would add an open, two-way center lane to what is now a two-lane road between U.S. 64 Alternate (Western Boulevard) and McNair Road (N.C. 122), a distance of 2.3 miles. An open center lane on a three-lane road improves travel flow and safety, allowing drivers to pull out of the travel lane to safely make a left turn.
The department will host the open house from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, at the Thomas Fleming Building at Edgecombe Community College’s Tarboro campus. Preliminary design maps will be displayed at the meeting, and people may ask questions and provide feedback on the proposal.
More information as it becomes available will be posted on this NCDOT website.
People also may send questions or comments to Russell Broadwell, an NCDOT Division 4 project engineer, at P.O. Box 3165, Wilson, N.C., 27895; 252-640-6409; or rboadwell@ncdot.gov.
Comments received by May 30 will be considered as the final design is developed.
NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this workshop.
