CHARLOTTE – This weekend, lane closures will be in place along Interstate 85 in west Mecklenburg County as part of a $10.6 million improvement project between mile markers 36 and 28.
N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will intermittently close two of four travel lanes in both directions at the Little Rock Road overpass to repair bridge joints, extending the life of the bridge and improving the riding surface.
The closures will be in place from 9 p.m. Friday, April 26, until 6 a.m. Monday, April 29.
Drivers are encouraged to use I-485 as to avoid delays. Overhead signs will advertise the alternate route ahead of the lane closures.
Lane closures will continue to be scheduled as work advances and as weather permits. Motorists are encouraged to pay attention when approaching the work zone, obey the posted speed limit, follow posted detours, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
