WINSTON-SALEM – A second wave of overnight ramp closures is planned for this week at the junction of Interstate 40, Business 40 and U.S. 421 on the west side of Winston-Salem.
A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation plans to close the ramp from I-40 West onto U.S. 421 South/Business 40 East while milling and resurfacing is conducted nightly between Thursday night (April 25) and Sunday morning (April 28). The closure will be in place between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., minimizing impacts on traffic.
The exit ramp from Stratford Road onto westbound I-40 will also close for resurfacing during the same hours.
Detours for the closures are as follows:
- From westbound I-40: Take Exit 189 (Stratford Road/U.S. 158), turn left onto Stratford Road, turn left onto Silas Creek Parkway and then right onto U.S. 421 South/Business 40 East.
- From Stratford Road: Head northeast on Stratford Road and turn left onto Silas Creek Parkway, exit right to loop onto U.S. 421 North/Business 40 West, then exit left onto I-40 West.
Drivers should use caution near the work zone and expect longer commutes because of the detour routes.
This work is part of a $17.5 million project to rehabilitate pavement along 6 miles of I-40 between Winston-Salem and Clemmons.
