Wade Avenue Ramp to Southbound Capital Boulevard Closed This Weekend

RALEIGH – Weekend closures for the Capital Boulevard bridge replacements project will be in place starting tonight, but a long-term closure of a Wade Avenue ramp is expected to end in just one week.

Starting at 9 tonight, the ramp going from Wade Avenue to southbound Capital Boulevard will close. That will allow the contractor to remove the existing concrete at that location and replace it with asphalt. The closure will be in effect until 6 a.m. on Monday, unless the work is wrapped up early and the ramp can be reopened.

Motorists heading into downtown Raleigh will be detoured onto Glenwood Avenue, turning right off the ramp and going to Peace Street, where they can turn left to get back to Capital Boulevard or continue toward the downtown area. Drivers are urged to pay attention to the detour signs and to anticipate possibly needing some extra time because of the detour.

In addition to the ramp closure this weekend, the inside lane on Capital Boulevard will be closed in both directions to let the contractor do work in the median. This will only be a lane closure, so no detour is needed.

In a major step for the project, the ramp from Wade Avenue to northbound Capital Boulevard, closed since last fall, is scheduled to reopen next week, weather permitting and once all the prep work for the opening is wrapped up. There is no specific date yet for that opening.

Also upcoming is a traffic shift for northbound Capital Boulevard to the new bridge over Peace Street, which will likely take place next weekend. The specific details on the shift are expected to be finalized early next week.

Updated information on the project to replace the Wade Avenue ramp bridge, and the Capital Boulevard bridge over Peace Street is available through a variety of means, including the project website, as well as the NCDOT Triangle Twitter feed.
