SALISBURY – State transportation officials have decided to modify a Rowan County intersection to make it safer for drivers.
Traffic currently faces a two-way stop on Old Mocksville Road at the intersection with East Ridge Road, north of Salisbury. The N.C. Department of Transportation plans to make the intersection a four-way stop, adding stop signs in both directions of East Ridge Road on the morning of April 8.
There have been 28 collisions at this intersection over the past 5 years, 20 of which involved an angled impact. Four-way stops are effective at reducing angled collisions since drivers are required to stop before crossing the intersection.
NCDOT plans to install message boards to alert the public ahead of the installation of the new stop signs.
