Smoother Ride Coming for Roads in Hoke, Scotland Counties

RALEIGH – Improved roadway conditions are in the works for roads in Hoke and Scotland counties, thanks to a $3.3 million contract recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation.

The project calls for milling, resurfacing and shoulder reconstruction along nearly 18 miles of roadway that includes a section of U.S. 401, two sections of U.S. 401 Business and seven sections of secondary roads.

The U.S. 401 span is between Crawford Wright Road and just north of Palmer Street near Raeford. The sections of Business 401 are between U.S. 401 (McColl Road) and U.S. 74 Business (Church Street) in Laurinburg, and the project includes the stretch of U.S. 15/501 Business (Aberdeen Road) between McColl Road and Business 401.

Hudson Paving was the lowest of two bidders, with a $3,323,701 bid that was 8.7 percent below the projected budget. The project could begin April 15 and should be complete by June 30, 2020.

This is among 21 major highway and bridge projects awarded by the NCDOT recently.

The projects went to the lowest bidder among qualified contractors, as required by state law. They are worth $331.5 million, more than $57 million under engineer estimates.
