U.S. 64 Bridge Preservation Work to Reduce Lanes

ASHEBORO – Motorists in Randolph County should expect lane closures beginning this spring while maintenance work is performed on the U.S. 64 bridge spanning the Deep River in Franklinville.

Extreme Concrete Cutting of Gaffney, S.C., recently received a $1.4 million contract from the N.C. Department of Transportation to do bridge preservation work that will include repairing and sealing any cracks in the concrete deck.

“This work will extend the lifespan of the bridge,” said Cary Fine, a senior assistant resident engineer for NCDOT in the Asheboro office.

The contractor may begin after March 19, and once started, the company will have four months to complete the project. At least one lane in each direction will remain open during the work, but drivers should be alert, slow down in the work zone and obey all signs.
