SYLVA — Public participation is a critical part of the process.
The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting on February 27 regarding the proposed creation of the Balfour Parkway between N.C. 191 and U.S. 64.
The four-lane roadway would improve east-west traffic in Henderson County and improve traffic operations in Hendersonville by providing an alternate route to driving through downtown.
First identified as a need in 2005 by the Henderson County Transportation Advisory Committee, this project is in the early stages. The NCDOT has identified four possible corridors — each 1,000 feet in width — for the new road. The process would continue with the selection of a corridor, developing multiple routes within that corridor, then selecting the appropriate route and narrowing the project footprint to 250 feet.
Maps of the proposed corridors will be provided and project team members will be available to discuss the project, answer questions and provide feedback at the meeting, which will be held 4-7 p.m. at The Cascades Mountain Resort, 201 Sugarloaf Road in Hendersonville.
Written comments or questions may be submitted at the meeting, via mail, or email until March 30. The comments and questions are a critical part of project development.
