SELMA – Woodruff Road over Buffalo Creek
in Johnston County will close beginning Monday, Feb. 19, so contractor workers
can replace a bridge.
A detour will send vehicles onto Old Beulah Road and Micro Road
West, northeast of Selma. The new bridge is expected to open in August.
This bridge, along with one spanning Glendale Road in the same
county, are being replaced under a $1.4 million contract the N.C. Department of
Transportation awarded to Fred Smith Co. of Raleigh last fall. Construction on
the Glendale Road bridge is expected to wrap up by May.
Although safe, both bridges are deemed structurally deficient
because they are expensive to maintain, no longer meet today’s traffic demands
and have vehicle weight limits.
