Spring Lake - The N.C. Department of
Transportation is soliciting feedback on a design plan that would reduce traffic
delays and ease commuter congestion at one N.C. 87 intersection in Harnett
County.
The department has proposed reconstructing the highway’s
intersection with Nursery Road about five miles north of Spring Lake to improve
mobility. The changes would include:
- Creating a second left-turn lane on Nursery Road, so more vehicles
could to turn onto N.C. 87 when the signal is green; and
- Reconfiguring the median to allow N.C. 87’s two southbound lanes
(headed toward Fort Bragg) to flow continuously without ever having to stop. A
new concrete median would separate the travel lanes from the traffic turning
left off Nursery Road.
Construction would start in fall 2019.
Interested citizens can learn more about the proposal at an open
house on Tuesday, April 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Manna Church Anderson Creek,
90 Stone Cross Drive, outside Spring Lake.
