Drainage Solution Coming for Orange County Drivers Along East Washington Street

​MEBANE – N.C. Department of Transportation maintenance crews must close a section of East Washington Street near the intersection of Mattress Factory Road while they replace a deteriorating pipe which will improve drainage along this portion of roadway in Mebane.

“The existing pipe failed and requires an immediate replacement with a new pipe that should last underneath the roadway for another 40 years,” said NCDOT County Maintenance Engineer Tommy Byrd.

Crews will close the road at 8 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 12. It is scheduled to reopen at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15, weather permitting.

Motorists traveling through the area should use Buckhorn Road and U.S. 70 to detour around the closure.

Transportation officials advise drivers to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
