CONCORD – Contract crews working on the Interstate 85 widening project in Cabarrus County have scheduled overnight lane closures on I-85 North to continue bridge and pavement operations, weather permitting.
Starting tonight at 9 p.m., three of four lanes will close from exit 55 (N.C. 73) to exit 58 (U.S. 29/601). At midnight, all northbound lanes will close.
Traffic will be detoured at exit 58, turning left at the top of the exit ramp to U.S. 29. Motorists will stay on U.S. 29 until reaching Dale Earnhardt Boulevard, then turning right to return to I-85.
During this time, the northbound rest area will also be closed. All traffic control will be removed by 6 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6.
Motorists are encouraged to pay attention when approaching the work zone, obey the posted speed limit, follow posted detours, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
